This painting features a simple vase that is balanced by an elaborate floral display. The vase itself carries luminescent tones, picking up on the lovely gold in the frame, and delicate greens, pulling the leaves downward and serving as a reminder of earthy colors. This balances the striking shades of blue applied here, which are used quite generously, as if to shrug off the rareness of such blue in most floral arrangements. As a result of such density of the color, the red poppy, almost in the center of the painting, brings forth allure and romanticism, beautifully calling forth the exoticism of such a flower.
The overall sense of the painting is soft and rubbed smooth, blending shades and light together to freeze the arrangement in time, but not without the glow that tinges both petals and vase.
